Using HS’s and FSA’s to Pay for Holistic Health
Two popular savings plans might be ways to get alternative health bills covered. Known as Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Savings Accounts (FSAs), these accounts take pretax money out of your paycheck and set it aside for health related expenses not covered by your health insurance plan. Depending on where you live and the language of your specific FSA or HSA plan, you may discover that you can be reimbursed for alternative expenses.
But many don't realize that HAS and FSA funds can be used to pay for virtually any type of service, as long as it pertains to the treatment or prevention of a specific health condition. This could include biofeedback, naturopathy, Ayurvedic medicine, aromatherapy, magnetic healing, reflexology, and the list goes on.
In combination with a qualified High Deductible Health Plan, the Health Savings Account (HSA) gives you a way to pay for qualified healthcare expenses now and grow your savings for future healthcare needs. Your contributions don't count toward your taxable income for federal taxes. They're not taxable in most states, as well.
Your financial advisor or insurance broker can help you decide if an HAS or FSA is right for you.
